![]() I know there's a set of runes/keys you can get on some few levels, so there's really no reason to play many of the levels in here, it all seem pretty optional (if you miss a rune in a level you have to play it all over again). You could get a pretty hard level at the start, and then an easier one after that, and you could just play and replay them again, with no way of checking out which levels you finished and which ones you didn't. I mean just look at this:Įven though I love some of the maps and gameplay changes of Arcane Dimensions, I always get turned off this mod because there is no level progression, don't know if this was changed on newer versions, but the version I played was just a hub with some levels, some where even like test levels (one with breakable objects, one with many enemies, etc). The architecture of all the maps really stands out. It also looks really beautiful - despite running basically on the standard Quake engine but with most engine limits removed. There's a really neat escalation to each level as fights become more and more frantic as you progress. You'll loop back around through previously visited areas as you unlock new ones, and there are secrets galore. The maps are sprawling in size but interlink beautifully. Especially if you've played games like Dusk and Amid Evil.Įvery single mission is like its own mini metroidvania. ![]() If you've ever found yourself longing for Quake to get the Doom 2016 treatment, you need to play this. It introduces new weapons and enemies and most importantly has some of the best FPS level design you'll ever see. It is a ridiculously high quality mod, that essentially takes Quake and turns it into the dream modern throwback FPS. Arcane Dimensions is a mod for Quake, and all you need is a copy of Quake and the Quakespasm source port to play it.
